It was a tough run. It's been awhile since I've done any kind of exercise so I found myself out of breath a lot faster than normal and my legs felt heavy. The run still felt amazing and while I only went two miles and that two mile took way longer than I would have liked I still loved it. I look forward to the days that I can run long distances again. I thiiiink I want to run a half marathon in March but we'll see. I've got time to figure it out. I know I want to run a marathon next fall and I think an early spring half marathon would be a great starting point.
I must say that I am rather excited. There has been some road construction by my house. The county moved a road to connect it to a new round-about in town. This construction has been going on since May. When they finished the round-about we got really excited to try it out. Then they closed the road leading up to it.. which is also the main road we use to get out of our neighborhood. The closure of this part of the road was a huge inconvenience because we had to take a small detour to get to work and run errands. The construction was finally completely and the road is open again! YAY!
What I am more excited though is the new sidewalk. You can tell you are a runner when you get excited about new sidewalk. Prior to this there was only one really safe way out of my neighborhood that didn't involve me running on the road. It's about a mile to get out of the neighborhood going this route whereas if I ran on the road I'd be out of the neighborhood in about a quarter of a mile. This really wasn't a huge deal to me when I was running alone. I prefer to run on sidewalks because they are safer but I would occasionally run on the road (or the grass next to the road) until I could get to some sidewalk. Most of the time i'd take the long way out and the short way back home. I am kind of anal when it comes to running. I don't really like to run out and than back. I like to run loops. But when I'd take Isaac for walks or runs I couldn't take the road or go on the grass. So I'd have to take the long way out (1 mile) and then the long way back home (1 mile). Not much fun when you run/walk a mile out then have to run/walk the same mile back. Especially since I didn't like to go super far in the stroller. ANYWAYS.... with the construction of this new road came a new sidewalk next to the road. This means there is sidewalk on all of my normal running routes making it safer for me when I run by myself and safer for when I take Isaac on walks or runs. I am super excited about this and look forward to logging many miles using this sidewalk!
New Sidewalk! |
I tried out the sidewalk today and it was awesome!! The reason it is so dirty is because they are planting seeds and fertilizer so that in the spring there will be grass. I know i've said this already but I am really excited about this. I must have complained to Hubby a million times about how this part of my run lacked a sidewalk and how nervous it made me to run on the road. Drivers are crazy and careless sometimes. In fact during this run I saw someone on their phone (probably texting) while driving as they turned into my neighborhood. Normally I would have been on the road for this section of the run. Gah!
