What was your first paying job?

When I was in middle school... heck maybe even earlier than that....  I used to do grocery shopping for a handicap neighbor. She had problems getting around. She'd give me a list and I'd go with my mom to the store. My mom would do the family shopping and I would do her shopping. I'd take it to her house and unload it from the car and put it away for her.  She paid me $3.00. The whole thing probably took roughly 2 hours. So I got whole 1.50 per hour!

My first real job was working as a dietary aid at a nursing home.  I'd work about 15 hours a week. I would bring the elderly their meals. I was 15. I ended up quitting the job a few months after I started because they were constantly changing the schedule after it came out. There were times i'd get a phone call asking me why I wasn't at work and I come to find out the schedule had been changed. There were times when people would call in sick and they'd call me to come in. When I told them I couldn't they'd say things like, "well i'm glad you are putting your job first." I WAS FIFTEEN!  I remember that I had to work on Christmas eve. Three people called in sick. Which meant more work for the few of us that were there. They let my parents (and maybe my siblings... I can't recall), come in and help set up the dining room for the following day. In reality they shouldn't have done that... but I'm glad they did because we were able to get the workload done so that we were almost done on time. Stuff like this happened all the time.

The most annoying thing about a paying job that I had once.... was when I was moving to new state. I gave my employees (I had two part-time jobs) a MONTH'S notice. I did this out of courtesy. I could have just given them two weeks. Heck I could have given them no notice at all.  They decided that my courtesy meant they could cut my hours. Yep... that really happened.
